How to be a “Morning Person”

Hey all you beautiful people!! Welcome back to Bit O’Jam 🙂 We are almost half way through 2017 and its time to check back on the “New Year Resolutions” that were set 6 months back. Go grab a glass of water/tea/coffee and review your Resolutions Goals. The other day I was reviewing my goals and figured out a couple of things that worked really well and some that needed a lot of change. Do not hesitate to switch your goals or action steps. Just do what works for you.

1 of my goals this year was to wake up early. I used to wake up at 7:30 and my goal was to wake up at 6. And here I am after 6 months of waking up at 6 AM (almost everyday) without the help of an Alarm. I thought I would share some of the things which helped me achieve this goal.

  1. Prep for the morning – 
    If you want to conquer your mornings, then start the night before. I have a set of things that I do every night before going to bed and this saves a ton of time in the mornings. Keep your outfits ready (for both work & workout), pack you bag, keep the water bottle, a fruit and your journal (a pen as well) on your bed table. By doing this you will not end up looking for your stuff in the morning and waste time. Just spend 10 mins the night before and make your mornings hassle free.
  2. Wake up at the same time
    This is probably the most important thing to do. If your picking up any 1 advice from this article, then pick this one. Make sure you wake up at the same time everyday; by everyday I mean “EVERYDAY” (Yes! on the weekends as well). Keep your alarm away from your bed so that you have get out of your bed to turn it off and by the time you do this, you are half awake. Drink water immediately after you switch off the alarm. This wakes up your organs and you are awake inside out 😉
  3. Use an Alarm Clock
    This is definitely a game changer. We often switch off the alarms and start scrolling through Insta, FB, Twitter. Its almost 30 – 60 mins by the time we realize this. Your time is precious, do not waste your time in looking at what other people are doing in their life, get up and create your dream life.  So ditch your phones in the morning and invest in a nice vintage style alarm clock which does not have a snooze option.
  4. Move your body
    Do not have time to go for gym or take a walk in the park? No worries, at home workouts have come to your rescue. There are tons of YouTube videos, workout apps and DVDs (the best part is most of it is free). Try out a couple of workouts and choose those that fit your style. If you are pressed for time, there are dozens of 7 minute workout apps. You get High Intensity, Low Intensity, Yoga, Full Body, Abs, Legs.. You name it; You Get it. Hey! c’mon you can invest 7 minutes for your future self. Some thing is way better than nothing. Get in your shoes and start moving 🙂 
  5. Plan something creative
    Planning and doing something creative in the mornings not only helps you to achieve the goal of waking up early but also helps you to stick with it. I love journaling, sketching, doodling and coloring. Adult coloring books are great if your are just starting. You can also try to pursue any of those long awaited hobbies. Just spend 15 – 30 min every morning and boom!! it works wonders.
